Stained Glass Commissions
Making a stunning piece of glass follows a well-tried and tested approach:
I usually find that it takes two or three design sketches before we both understand fully what you want.
Having spent some time establishing the concept with you, I produce an initial sketch for you to review. This is often done over the internet via scanned documents, or you are very welcome to visit my studio in West Cornwall. You amend the sketch or tell to me how the design needs to change to reflect more accurately what you want (or reject if it’s nowhere near what you want!). I do a revised sketch and we repeat the process. This usually takes two or three iterations. We will have discussed types and colours of glass and by the final iteration will have agreed the glass to be used.
Finally, I draw a full size design on tracing paper for you to view in situation with the glass samples I have sent you to make sure you are completely happy with the design.
I will have given you an indicative price as the design sketches are developed. Once the final design and glasses are agreed, I then give you a fixed price for making the piece.
Up to this point it has cost you nothing other than your time. If for whatever reason you don’t want to proceed that’s fine – I will have enjoyed designing the piece with you and maybe you will come back another day. If you do want to proceed I would ask for a non-refundable 20% deposit against materials I will purchase for your commission.
I then order your materials and make you a beautiful piece of glass that you will enjoy for years to come.

- Visualise it with design sketches and glass samples.
- Accurately draw it for you to approve it.
- Marshall the materials required to make it.
- I make it for you.
- You enjoy it!
